ABIM Board Certified BBB Accredited

Is This Tool Right for You?

This free assessment may be helpful if any of the following apply to you:

You have been diagnosed with heart failure and want to understand your risk level
Your doctor told you your BNP or NT-proBNP is elevated and you want to know what it means
You experience shortness of breath, fatigue, or swelling in your legs or ankles
You are taking heart failure medications (such as a beta-blocker, ACE inhibitor, or ARB) and want to track how you're doing
You have a family member with heart failure and are helping them understand their results

What Will You Learn?

This tool calculates your MAGGIC Risk Score — a validated scoring system used by cardiologists worldwide that was developed from studying nearly 40,000 heart failure patients. It tells you three important things:

📊

Where You Stand

A clear risk category (Low, Moderate, High, or Very High) based on your specific health profile

🔍

What's Driving Your Risk

A breakdown showing which health factors contribute the most to your score — and which are already in your favor

What You Can Change

An AI-powered report identifying modifiable risk factors and specific steps you can discuss with your doctor

How to Use This Tool

1

Gather your recent lab results

You'll need your BNP or NT-proBNP level, and ideally your creatinine, blood pressure, and ejection fraction (from an echocardiogram). Don't have labs? You can order them below through ULTA Lab Tests — no doctor's visit required.

2

Fill in the calculator below

Enter your age, vitals, and lab values. Fields marked with a red * are required. Optional labs (Section D) aren't needed for the score but make the AI analysis more thorough.

3

Click "Calculate" and get your results instantly

You'll see your MAGGIC score, risk category, and BNP interpretation immediately. Then our AI system (which takes about 20-30 seconds) generates a detailed physician-grade report explaining exactly what your results mean.

4

Save and share with your doctor

Email your results to yourself, print a PDF, or book a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Kilgore to review your assessment in detail.

🔒

Your data is safe. All calculations happen right here in your browser. Your health information is never stored on our servers, sold, or shared with anyone. This tool is designed by a board-certified physician and built to the same privacy standards used in clinical practice.

Don't Have Your Lab Results?

Order a BNP or NT-proBNP test along with a Basic Metabolic Panel and CBC through ULTA Lab Tests. No doctor's visit required. Results typically available within 2-3 business days.

Order Lab Tests

Or ask your doctor for these results from your most recent blood work.

Note: Direct-to-consumer lab testing is not available in NY, NJ, RI, or HI.

Basic information used in MAGGIC score calculation.

These are the remaining MAGGIC score components. If you do not know your ejection fraction, select "Unknown / Not tested."

Do you have diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2)?
Are you a current smoker?
Do you have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)?
Are you currently taking a beta-blocker? (e.g. metoprolol, carvedilol, bisoprolol)
Are you currently taking an ACE inhibitor or ARB? (e.g. lisinopril, losartan, valsartan)

Select which test you have, then enter the value. BNP and NT-proBNP are different tests with different reference ranges.

Are you taking sacubitril/valsartan (Entresto)?
Important: Sacubitril/valsartan (Entresto) inhibits the enzyme that breaks down BNP, causing BNP levels to be artificially elevated. BNP results are unreliable while on this medication. Switch to NT-proBNP for accurate assessment.

These enhance the AI analysis but are not required for MAGGIC score calculation.
