You don't need another dashboard.
You need a physician who acts on your results.
Function raised $351M at a $2.5B valuation to sell you a $499/year lab subscription. We took a different path. 32 evidence-based clinical tools, free — and when you want results read by an actual physician, you book Dr. Paul Kilgore, MD, MPH, FACP directly. Founder-owned. No investor pressure. Same week. Real Zoom.
Your dad's heart gave out younger than you'd like. And nobody has actually looked at your numbers.
You don't want another platform. You want someone to say: given your numbers, here's what to do this quarter and next year so you're still here in twenty. Function gives a dashboard. We give a physician.
Function Just Dropped “Health” From Its Name. We Didn't.
At their November 2025 Series B, Function Health rebranded as just “Function” — positioning as tech platform, not clinical service. We build in a different lane. Here is the difference, plainly.
A Consumer Testing Platform
$351M raised at a $2.5B valuation. Backed by a16z and celebrity investors. $499/year membership. Quest draws blood. A dashboard scores your numbers against reference ranges. Mark Hyman is the celebrity face — per drhyman.com, not accepting new patients. The product: access to lab panels and a polished UI.
A Board-Certified Physician's Practice
Founder-owned. No VC. Operated personally by Dr. Paul Kilgore — ABIM-certified internist, CDC EIS-trained, Associate Professor at Wayne State School of Medicine, 100+ peer-reviewed publications. 32 free assessment tools. When you want results actually read, you book Dr. Kilgore. The product is a physician's clinical judgment. Different job entirely.
Celebrities invested in Function because it is a great consumer product. They hire physicians like Dr. Kilgore to interpret their results.
Function Sees Two Layers. We Integrate Four.
Longevity is not a single biomarker. It is the integration of biological signals over time. Here is what each platform measures.
Two Data Layers
- 1Blood biomarkers~100 lab tests via Quest. Quarterly to annually.
- 2Whole-body MRI imaging$499 add-on (acquired Ezra, 2025). Single time point.
Four Data Layers, Integrated

- 2Geneticsvia FitnessGenes — DNA-level precision on metabolism, training, recovery.
- 3Epigeneticsvia TruDiagnostic — DunedinPACE, OMICmAge, biological age clocks.
- 4Wearables & physiologyvia WHOOP, Oura — HRV, sleep, recovery, training load.

Can You Actually Book Their Doctor?
Both feature physicians prominently. One sees patients. The other does not.
Dr. Paul Kilgore
- Board-certified, ABIM Internal Medicine
- CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service-trained
- Assoc. Professor, Wayne State University School of Medicine
- Co-Director, Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases at Henry Ford Health
- 100+ peer-reviewed publications
- Licensed in MI, AL, MO, WI, PA
- 36 yrs clinical practice
This is the credential set Function's celebrity investors hire when they need their own results read. You can book him this week. 45 to 60 minutes on Zoom. He reads your numbers, your history, your goals — and tells you what he would do if you were his patient. Because you are.
Dr. Mark Hyman
- Family medicine, University of Ottawa
- Former, Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine
- CMO, Function Health
- 15× NYT bestselling author
- Time 100 Health (2025)

- No active faculty appointment on record
Per drhyman.com, Dr. Hyman is not accepting new patients. NYT bestseller lists are not peer-reviewed publications. Your $499/year buys the platform he advises — not access to him, and not academic-grade clinical research.

Pick the Right Tool for the Job
Two products, two jobs. Honest read on which fits which buyer — written by us, not marketing.
Book Dr. Kilgore if you…
- Want a physician — not a platform — to act on your results
- Already have labs (Function, Quest, LabCorp) and need an internist to interpret them
- Care about evidence-based, peer-reviewed clinical reasoning over consumer tech polish
- Want longitudinal physician relationship, not a quarterly dashboard refresh
- Are willing to invest $150 once, not $499/year recurring
- Want integration across labs, genetics, epigenetics, and wearables — not just labs and MRI
- Live in MI, AL, MO, WI, PA, or seek population-level health guidance
Function is the right answer if you…
- Want a polished consumer-tech dashboard for ~100 biomarkers
- Are comfortable interpreting numbers yourself, with no physician relationship
- Prefer a $499/year recurring subscription model
- Want a $499 add-on whole-body MRI (despite ACR's position on asymptomatic screening)
- Don't need genetics, epigenetics, or wearable integration — labs alone are enough
- Live in NY/NJ (Function's labs don't serve there; ours do)
What People Ask Before Booking
Direct answers to common questions about both platforms.
Is the Zoom session HIPAA-compliant? How is my data protected?
Yes. All sessions use HIPAA-compliant Zoom for Healthcare with encrypted video, signed Business Associate Agreement, and audit logging. Sessions are not recorded by default. Your lab data, history, and clinical notes are stored in compliance with HIPAA and never shared with advertisers, employers, or third parties.
This matters more than it sounds. Function's lab platform stores your data on a venture-backed startup's infrastructure governed by their privacy policy, which can change with new investors. Our practice is bound by physician-patient confidentiality and HIPAA — legal protections, not policy promises.
Is Dr. Kilgore really the one I'll be meeting with?
Yes. Direct 45–60 minute Zoom with Dr. Kilgore personally. Not a nurse practitioner, not a health coach, not an AI agent. The physician whose CV is on this site.
His clinical practice is paired with academic commitments at Wayne State University and Henry Ford Health, so calendar capacity is genuinely limited. Book early.
Do you accept insurance? Can I use FSA or HSA?
The $150 Initial Consultation is cash-pay only — no insurance billing. This keeps the price low, the schedule open, and the clinical conversation focused on you, not on what insurance will cover.
FSA and HSA funds can typically be used for the consultation since it is a service rendered by a licensed physician. Receipts are provided automatically; check with your plan administrator for specifics.
What if I don't have any lab results yet?
That's fine. The $150 Initial Consultation includes a personalized testing roadmap — Dr. Kilgore tells you exactly which panels to order based on your history, goals, and risk profile. You order through our ULTA Lab Tests partnership at partnership pricing.
You return for a $225 Physician Interpretation Session once results are in. Many clients use this two-step path instead of paying $499 upfront for Function's pre-bundled panel.
I already paid for Function. Did I waste my money?
No. You have lab data, and lab data is the raw material we work with. Bring your Function panel to the $150 Initial Consultation — Dr. Kilgore reads it the way an internist reads labs: in context of history, goals, family risk profile, and clinical factors a dashboard cannot see.
Many of our highest-value clients arrive with Function results in hand. The labs were the right first step. A physician's interpretation is the next.
What if I'm in a state where Dr. Kilgore isn't licensed?
You can still book. Most consultations work for clients in any state. The distinction matters for scope:
For clinical care establishing a physician-patient relationship: Dr. Kilgore is licensed in MI, AL, MO, WI, PA. For population-level health education — lab pattern interpretation, longevity priorities, evidence-based prevention guidance — accessible regardless of state. Booking intake clarifies which mode applies.
Can Dr. Kilgore prescribe medications or order labs?
In states where licensed (MI, AL, MO, WI, PA), yes — for established patients, with appropriate clinical indication. Outside those states, the consultation is educational and clinical recommendations route through your local physician.
For lab testing, our ULTA Lab Tests partnership lets clients order panels directly without insurance, regardless of state (excludes NY, NJ, RI, HI per ULTA's state restrictions).
How is this different from concierge medicine (MDVIP, SignatureMD, One Medical)?
Concierge medicine charges $1,800–$5,000/year up front for guaranteed access to a primary care physician. We do not. The $150 Initial Consultation is à la carte — pay only when you need the conversation, not for an annual subscription.
Concierge physicians focus on access and convenience. Our work focuses on longevity-grade clinical interpretation — integrating biomarkers, genetics, epigenetics, and wearables into a unified picture. Dr. Kilgore is also a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, applying evidence-based lifestyle medicine principles within a conventional internal medicine practice — distinct from non-board-certified functional medicine approaches.
What happens after the $150 consultation? Are you going to upsell me?
At the end of the session, Dr. Kilgore tells you what he would recommend next. Sometimes that is a $225 Physician Interpretation Session. Sometimes a $500/month ongoing tier. Often: "here are three things to focus on for 90 days; come back with new labs."
If you don't want to continue, the conversation ends there. No funnels. No manufactured scarcity.
You've already done the comparison. Now book the physician.
32 free tools wait if you want to try them first. But if you read this far, you know what you need: a 45-minute Zoom with a board-certified internist who acts on your numbers — for less than a third of what Function charges before you see a single insight.
